251208 DDRCi December meeting: Chinese handhelds

In our last Member meeting for the year, we’re going to do two things we’ve had on the back burner for a while.  Hold the date:  Monday night 8 December at the Regional Scout HQ Hall, 2 Victory Street Newtown.

In 1976, the first synthesised handhelds started to appear.   A Kenwood TR2400 cost $700 and boasted THREE memories with manual repeater offset.   The 2025 equivalent handheld costs $30, covers 2m *AND* 70cm, has at least 100 memories which recall offset, CTCSS, power, mode, band and what you had for dinner.   Plus the receiver can cover bands from 500kHz to almost Gigs.

Bring along (or have on hand) your Chinese handheld.  whether that’s a Baofeng, a Quansheng, or a Splungenong* we’re going to have some tips and tricks and let’s have some discussion about how well they work.

But wait – there’s more.  It’s time for another show-and-tell and natter-night.

We’ll do this like a round table, so if you’re connecting remotely it will be just like being in the room.

Meanwhile, watch this space for announcement of our end-of-year gathering and BBQ.   And there’s still a rumour of  a Fox Hunt coming up before the end of the year.

All this and more from the Darling Downs Radio Club.
